Great question! Some of our styles, like the Zip Crossbody, Zip Tote, Oyster Shell Bag, Clam Shell Bag, and Clutches, come with closures. However, our Original Wildwood Bags, whether standard or crossbody, don’t have closures. But no worries — we offer a Bag Spa service where you can add a magnetic snap closure for just $28. You can check out that option here!

We recommend measuring a bag you already love and wear often. Just remember, our dock line styles include the length behind the brass tubes, so be sure to account for that. We have a showroom here in Portland, Maine! It’s located at 177 High Street and is by appointment only. Feel free to reach out to us if you’re in town and would like to see the bags in person. We offer a mix of both plated and solid jewelry. Our solid pieces include brass seaweed bracelets, silver seaweed bracelets, and our seaweed rings, available in solid silver and solid gold. You’ll find seaweed earrings, seaweed necklaces, Seaside Teal Patina, and Summer Night Black seaweed bracelets for our plated options. Whether you prefer the richness of solid metals or the beautiful finishes of our plated designs, we craft each salt-air-inspired piece with care.

We don’t currently have vegan bags, but we are in the process of testing some vegan leather options. Our goal is to be able to offer a vegan solution that is organic and not made of plastic. Our customers have been asking for it, and we’re actively experimenting with options. Stay tuned! xoxo

Great question! The original leather tote is 16 wide x 16 inches tall with a 24 inch dock line handle. The depth at the bottom of the bag is 4 inches. The original tote is big enough to fit a laptop along with your other essentials.

The Wildwood Oyster Co. small leather tote was designed as an alternative for our customers that are not ‘big bag’ fans, have a petite frame, or those that prefer a smaller bag. Compared to the original tote, the small tote is 13 inches wide and 13 inches tall. The rope handle is also 24 inches. The handbag can easily fit your wallet, small notebook and other belongings and is not as deep.

First, the leather is shipped to Lewiston, Maine where it is carefully cut by hand with a special machine that stamps out the leather pieces so that each bag is exactly the same.

When the shapes are cut, it’s really important that the optimize the leather to make sure there is as little waste as possible.

After the leather pieces are cut, the cuts are reviewed to make sure they are perfect and each leather set is batched with similar textured pieces.

Then, the leather is sewn on a fancy industrial sewing machine with super strong thread and inspected to make sure that they are made to last a lifetime. Read more about our Made in Maine processs.

Lastly, the finished leather bags are matched with the ropes and the metal handles are attached in our studio in Portland, Maine. Stop by sometime and visit our showroom!
